Weekly Recycling Map

The full map shows all five of the curbside trash and recycling pickup zones, color coded by day.

Gray areas are commercial/industrial zones, or are serviced by a private waste contractor.

Curbside trash pickup runs every week Monday through Friday. Recycling pickup runs on the same schedule, but is collected every other week.

That means if your regular trash day is Monday, your recycling day will also fall on a Monday.

Zero-Sort Recycling

What can I recycle? Great question.

Not plastic grocery bags. They may be technically recyclable, but they do not belong in Zero-Sort. Also nothing that has food scraps or other forms of contamination. Boxes, jars, and bottles that held food or drink should be rinsed out.

Recycling programs in Manchester and Gouldsboro were shut down because people got careless. Municipalities face penalties for contaminated recyclables, so if you care enough to recycle and want to keep doing so, please put the right stuff in the right place.

The list below is a guide for what can go into Zero-Sort Recycling, but keep in mind that this is non-exhaustive and may be subject to change. Except for plastic grocery bags.

Again, plastic grocery bags don't go in Zero-Sort.

Recyclables!

  • Aluminum
  • Metal cans
  • Plastics

  • Envelopes & opened mail

What is this?

This is a simple web app that shows when and where recycling collection is scheduled for the current week, and when the next recycling week begins.

This info is available on the City of Bangor site, but it's not easy to find if you don't know where to look. I was tinkering with interactive SVG maps and JavaScript's date/time API, and this was the result.

Aside from being a resident, I have no official affiliation with the City of Bangor. I guess you could call it an unofficial public service.

For those who may be interested, the source code for this page will be made available on GitHub.
